Welcome!

The purpose of this site is to exchange information on how to save a lot of money while still maintaining a quality standard of living.  You can save a lot of money on groceries (for example) by smart shopping and preparing inexpensive (but, good)  meals.

Because we have a large family we have gotten extremely creative in our shopping and cooking.  We shop at multiple markets, looking for the best deals, especially on meat.  The money we save far exceeds the additional gas we buy.  Some market or other will usually have some of their meat on sale at very low prices.  Always figure out the price per pound.  The stores usually do not furnish this information if they are offering buy one and get one (or two) free.  Since they usually jack up the price per pound when these offers are going on,  figure it out by dividing the price by two (or three if it's a buy one, get two offer).  The same idea goes for prepared food.  Don't buy name brands if they are not on a good sale.  Many products are available generically for a much lower price.  One of the stores around here offers boxed macaroni and cheese 4 for $1.00.  One pound boxes of elbow macaroni are also 3/1.00 most of the time at the same store.  I have noticed no difference in the taste or the quality.

For cooking things like meat sauce (for spaghetti and meat sauce) or meat balls, I recommend buying the one pound rolls of ground turkey (Still shopping for price).  In our area Aldi's sells them for .69 per pound.  Another deal at our Aldi's is the Chicken Legs and Pork Chops unless a local market has them on sale.  They have the lowest priced canned vegetables in our area on a regular basis.  For fresh vegetables, try a farm stand or farmers market in your area.

Also, don't forget to use coupons.  Many stores around here double coupons valued at less than a dollar.  If you buy with a coupon, try to get the smallest size.  Sometimes they can end up free, or very, very cheap.  There are some links to coupon sources at the bottom of this page.

Buy the discount spices.  In our area (Central NY State) discount spices are available in dollar stores and other overstock stores for about 1.00 for the large container.  I stock up regularly on garlic powder, onion powder, celery powder, chili powder, black pepper, crushed red peppers, blackened seasoning, thyme, oregano, dill and Cajun seasoning.

I am listing some recipes on this site using ground turkey for a base in meat sauce, meatballs, sloppy Joe's, Texas hot dog sauce, chili, tacos and even home made (easy) crumbled sausage for pizza.

I am looking forward to recipe contributions from our visitors.  Your input will make this site a more valuable resource.  Also please send us any other money saving suggestions.  Or just send money.

Both of the links below make you sign up by filling out a little survey. I did this for one of them.  They had some decent coupons and didn't send me much email.
